For more than a century the democratic appetite of the Iranian people for a free Iran that is supportive of peace and prosperity for the entire region has come along way. Although time after time the international community has failed us as a nation which peaked by the bringing down the government of Dr. Mohammad Mosadegh, in the 50s, we feel however that the goals of the Iranian people have become the goals of the international community as well and that is to have a democratic Iran with one elected government.
For the past week we observed the process of the presidential election in Iran which was the biggest display of power struggle within the theocratic government of hardliners, they forcefully presented to Iranians two hard-line candidates non of whom represent the views that Iranians hold.
The guardian council appointed by the non-elected supreme leader of the Islamic republic government announced the voter participation to be 54\% which is down from 66\% this drop which is in actuality greater than the claims of the council of non-elected clerics who also disqualified hundreds of to be candidates. Those who boycotted the elections who constitute the majority of the voters in Iran did so to protest the undemocratic process by which they were held.
We thank the people and the governments of Canada, US, UK, and other countries who were fast to not recognize these elections as honest and denounced its result. However we believe the international community has a greater obligation to put pressure on the non-elected Iranian government to comply with its peoples demands. The international community must act now and not recognize the new Iranian appointed president, demand the freeing of all political prisoners whose lives are in danger, and demand for a free election to be held NOW in which all Iranians regardless of race, religion and/or beliefs can be candidates and choose freely under the supervision of the United Nations. Iranians do not have an appetite for an invasion of their borders; we do not support any military intervention as a solution. All that we ask the free nations of the world to do is to support strongly the democratic movement of the Iranians towards a secular, democratic, and peace loving government.
This letter is not intended to support any particular political group, party or any other specific persons. We only support a democratic electoral process by which all and only all Iranians can fully participate and campaign inside the country freely regardless of their political beliefs, and religion back grounds. Only through this type of election we can legitimately and freely elect a government that will represent all Iranians.
