August 30, 1996 - The sequel, "The Crow: City of Angels" is released to movie theaters. Compared to the first movie, it was a disastor, it only made more than $30 Million in the U.S. alone.
What went wrong? It lacked some action, character devolpment, and the fact that the first "Crow" movie was so sucessful this should of not been made in the first place, according to "Crow" fans. Very few people know that the sequel was not meant to replace the first movie, it was meant to entertain "Crow" fans and to show people a different chapter. Very few people have seen the workprint version of "The Crow: City of Angels" because it was not released to people in the first place. However, some people seen on Pay-Per-View "The Crow: City of Angels". What's so unique about this? Both of those versions had never-before-seen footage, alternate ending, alternate deaths, more character devolpment, more action, and more everything. If this version was released, it could of been an excellent sequel and it could of done better at the box office.
The plot is very simple. In a future but decaying Los Angeles, a man named Ashe (Vincent Perez) and his son, Danny (Eric Acosta), are brutally murdered after they witness gang members murdering a man. Sarah (Mia Kirshner), from the original, is having dreams that another has been chosing to take revenge. A mysterious Crow brings Ashe back to life and teams up with Sarah as Ashe takes on the killers one by one, until fighting the Druglord - Judah (Richard Brooks).
I want everyone, including "Crow" fans, to sign this petition so that Miramax\Dimension films releases the Uncut Version of "The Crow: City of Angels". I heard that Miramax might be releasing the Uncut version, but I'm not sure. The Uncut version should of been released to everyone but they did not. This version has the following...
-Sarah has a longer voice over in the beginning of the film.
-The Crow (the bird) "lifts" Ashe from his watery grave.
-Before Ashe runs from Sarah's apartment, he does not believe he is alive so Sarah stabs him with a kitchen knife.
-When Ashe runs to his home, we see his sign which is called "Corven's Body Shop".
-There are bad guy back stories. Judah tells about himself drowning and becoming the way that he is, Spidermonkey "stole" the imp logo from his grandmother's car and used (copied) the logo for the bags of trinity (the drug in the movie), Kali is revealed to be a virgin, because she only 'gets pleasure from killing, and nothing else.
-When Ashe is going after Spidermonkey at the Trinity Drug Plant. Ashe takes Spidermonkey's gun and says, "Don't try this at home, kids!" and shoots himself. Spidermonkey checks Ashe but Ashe gets up, scaring Spidermonkey.
-When Ashe destroy's the Trinity Drug Plant, thugs come to pick a fight with Ashe. Ashe scares them off.
-Remember Holly Daze? She was the stripper talking to Nemo at that Live Girls building. After Nemo is killed, Ashe confronts Holly Daze and tells her not to come here while tugging on her. This makes Ashe very anti-hero like.
-In this version, there is love scenes between Ashe and Sarah.
-The Twins and Kali shoot at Sarah's apartment door features them trashing Sarah's apartment and destroying paintings.
-When Ashe builds Danny's grave, he does not burn his painting in this version.
-The fight scene between Ashe and Kali is longer. Kali uses a 2x4 and a sword. Kali gets her arm broken in this version while fighting Ashe.
-When Kali is thrown out of the window, we see a shadow of a giant crow morphing into Ashe. This shows that the Crow and Ashe are one.
-Kali's death is much different. She is still alive. Ashe comes out of no where and Kali begs him to kill her. Ashe refuses as thugs come and rape Kali to death.
-When Ashe is being shot by the gang members at the bar, Curve escapes and that's it from the Theatrical Version. In the Uncut Version, Curve escapes the shoot out while Ashe grabs his shotgun and blows the gang members to kingdom come. Then we start the motorcycle chase.
-The motorcycle chase was a little bit longer. When Curve esacapes from Ashe, Ashe looks for a way to find a way to get ahead of Curve.
-When Curve says, "You think I'm afraid of you?!?!?", Curve pees his pants in the Uncut version because he is afraid of Ashe.
-When Ashe blows up Curve's motorcycle with his shotgun, Curve is on the ground with his crotch on fire. You can see a glimpse of this in the Theatrical Version, if you look carefully.
-At the Day of the Dead festival, we see two more characters. One is Amede.
-When Ashe is climbing Judah's headquarters, The Twins follow him. One falls off the building and ends up decapitated.
-When the spectre of Danny is at the Day of the Dead festival, he says to his father, Ashe, that it is time to go. Ashe says that he must protect Sarah and Danny dissapears. Ashe looks for him in the crowd and turns a drunk guy around, believeing it was Danny.
-More Ashe\Judah dialouge.
-During the Ashe\Judah fight scene, Danny's painting falls from Ashes coat. Judah rips it up. Only in the Uncut Version.
-In this version, Sarah and Ashe talk to each other just before Sarah dies.
-Because Ashe chose Sarah of Earth over Danny in Heaven, Ashe must stay on Earth forever as part of the undead. The Theatrical does not have this.
-Ashe destroy's Sarah's apartment so he does not remember her anymore.
-Ashe carries Sarah to the church is longer. It also features Ashe wearing Sarah's ring like Brandon Lee's charcter "Eric" did in the first "Crow" movie. This also shows the priest asking Ashe, "What will you do now, my son?", Ashe replies that he can't let another shadow take over Los Angeles.
-In the Theatrical Version, we see Ashe and Danny in "Heaven" but this is a flashback in the Uncut Version. This explains the confusing ending.
This is the Uncut Version of "The Crow: City of Angels". I'm not sure if there are even more scenes but I hope so. I know for a fact that these are in the Uncut Version. If Miramax\Dimension films accepts our petition, let's hope they will release a VHS and DVD version of the Uncut Version of "The Crow: City of Angels". If they want, they could release this to theaters, it would be interesting. The DVD should feature, Dolby Digital, Teaser Trailors, Theatrical Trailors, Commentary, Commentary of why the scenes were cut or changed, Uncut Scenes versus Theatrical Scenes, jump to a scene feature, interviews, behind-the-scenes of "The Crow: City of Angels", Music videos of "The Crow: City of Angels", and a interactive game.
I hope you people will sign this petition. The Deadline is August 30, 2003 on a Saturday. The reason is because that's when "The Crow: City of Angels" was released to theaters, back in 1996. Remember, do not use foul language! Say why the Theatrical Version is bad and why the Uncut Version should be released. Remember, we are not against Miramax\Dimension films. Miramax\Dimension films brought some of the best movies ever created. Now start signing and cross you fingers that the Uncut Version will be released. Start signing but do not sign twice!
As to Miramax\Dimension films, please release the Uncut Version of "The Crow: City of Angels". We all deserve to see the version that should of been released. If you release it, you will get the money while people get to see the far superior version of "The Crow: City of Angels". Please release it, we won't be dissapointed!
Thank You,
David Coyle
