World Legacy for the 21st Century

The United Nations was formed in 1946 by men with vision tired of war and with a desire to have disputes mediated by men of the world using sound judgement and operating in good faith. They created a wonderful document that served us well for nearly three decades. Peacekeepers were dispatched to trouble spots and the international court dealt with the legal disputes among countries. The charter did not work perfectly, however, it did work.
As we approached the 21st century some nations began to operate in their own interest, some stopped paying their dues and others bowed to public pressure or lost influence on the world stage. Emerging nations were sometimes treated poorly and became disenchanted. Self interest, political consideration and veto over rode the principles of the United Nations Charter.
We call upon you, the member states, to rededicate yourselves to the principles envisioned in the United Nations Charter. To put aside or mesh your own self interest to the good of humanity and the peace of our troubled world. These are the principles envisioned in the charter, mediation, consultation, discussion and action as decided by men of good will working together for a peaceful world.
Gentle men and women of the General Assembly along with your leaders this can be your legacy. The rededication of your nation and all nations to making the world a better more peaceful place. History will be our judge.
