Abuses in the Mental Health System

There are many mental health facilities in every state. How do the counselors treat clients and do they help them or hinder them in their progress? For example, many employees in these facilities ask embarrassing questions to their clients such as,"Are you pregnant? Do you have any children under age 18?" These questions are asked without much thought. But consider why are they asking these questions to mentally ill persons? Are they planning on adopting out their children to other families? I know of several centers in Virginia and West Virginia who have asked people these questions including: The Summit Center, Grafton,WV, The Summit Center in Fairmont,WV, Vintage Adult Day Care in Fairmont, WV, the Community Service board in Woodbridge, VA, and the Prince William Club in Manassas,VA.
Within agencies such as the adult daycare homes such as Vintage in Fairmont,WV, the counselors will ask the client, "Why are you depressed? Aren't you glad your child was adopted out 18 years ago so she can have a chance at a happy life." I was a witness to this statement made by the head counselor. There have been suicides at Vintage as well. The clients become depressed because they are being abused and they go back to their group home and take some sleeping pills at bedtime and never wake up again. I spoke to a social service worker in Marion County Adult Protective Services and he refused to get involved as it was not "politically correct" since the counselors and social workers were all friends.
As for victims of suicide who attend these centers, I have witnessed in a six week period when I attended Prince Willim Clubhouse, in Manassas, VA, that six clients who were suffering from mental illness,and mistreated by the counselors, had committed suicide in a six week time period.
There are many psychiatrists with big pay checks who give little or no time to listen to the concerns of mentally ill patients who are being over medicated or not given the correct medication or who are taking drugs that make them more depressed or suicidal.
What can be done to improve the mental health system in Virginia and West Virginia?
