Be Responsible and Avoid More BC Fires!

I was a volunteer for the North Shore Emergency Program during our horrendous BC Fires, I was able to spend time manning the "Search and Reply" phone lines during that difficult time. I was able to see/hear first hand what a devastating impact those fires had on the families affected by those fires, the cost to our firefighters and emergency personnel and the anguish it caused as so many other citizens of British Columbia and Canada helplessly watched the fires burn out of control.

While people are still suffering the consequences of the BC Fires, and as an avid hiker of our fantastic local trails and parks, I continue to see cigarette butts thrown carelessly onto the trails and everywhere else that I go. With the possibility of another dry summer upon us, I find these inconsiderate actions totally unacceptable. Whilst I recognize that not every smoker is guilty of such carelessness, many do not consider the consequences of their actions. Now we can all do something about it.

Please sign my online petition urging our government to take forthwith, the necessary actions to make discarding cigarette butts onto our roads, into our forests, and anywhere that is deemed public property illegal. Those who irresponsibly disregard the safety and beauty of our gorgeous province as they mindlessly toss away their cigarette butts should be made accountable for their actions.
