Flavor of Love is a Joke in your town!


The show Flavor of Love is an insult to all things decent. That an icon from a great musical culture should stoop to such degradation and denigration says much about the way hip-hop treats its elderly. Have we forgotten the socially conscious group Flav was once apart of? Would we not support a show where he teaches young hip hop hopefuls how to break into the game based on his own experiences? Further, the show is a blatant exploitation of women possessing little self-esteem. To be sure:


The women incessantly refer to each other as bitch


The contestants strip for the friends of their would be love


The women accuse one of the white contestants of acting black because she sounds ignorant when she speaks (thereby perpetuating the association of being black with ignorance)


The contestants seem to only offer their sexuality as competitive edge


The contestants crave Flavs attention and dangle any compliment over the heads of their competitors like immature little girls desperate for the attention of daddy





Wouldnt the airtime allotted to this music icon be better used in any other way but this? Admittedly (and ashamedly), the show is entertaining. And what does that say about the mores of this society. In order to redeem ourselves, we must demand more of those in control of our entertainment.


We demand that the show Flavor of Love either be cancelled or seriously overhauled. Hows this for a shocking twist. What if Flav requires the women to suddenly dress with class? Or prove that they can make some sort of viable contribution to society. The show in its current format is a disgusting representation of women of all races. How can we, knowing that there are so many young girls modeling their lives after the un reality of tv, continue to support this painful display of misogyny (from both males and females).
