As members of the Duke community, we are troubled by Duke University Health Systems outsourcing of laundry services to a law-breaking, anti-worker company like Angelica Textile Services. We support Angelica workers in Durham and throughout the country who are organizing to improve their sweatshop working conditions, wages, and benefits through a fair process of choosing union representation.
As leading educational and healthcare institutions in this country, it is the responsibility of Duke University and Duke University Health System to do business with companies that respect workers rights and abide by labor law. We urge you to terminate your contract with Angelica unless Angelica cleans up the hazardous health and safety conditions in its plants and agrees to a neutral and fair process through which its workers can choose union representation.
