I support the efforts of 9th Life - Hawai'i to control the population of feral and unwanted cats in Maui County by trapping, sterilizing and releasing healthy cats into managed cat colonies. This method of compassionate cat control has proven more effective and cost-efficient than euthanasia in communities all over the world. I urge the Maui County Council to review the benefits of cat colony management and adopt a resolution urging citizens to voluntarily participate in trap/neuter/release programs.

Trap/Neuter/Release is effective because it not only targets the end result of a problem (unwanted litters) it also targets the source (lack of owner responsibility.) The "round up and put down" method implies these animals have no value and does not comb
