Control of Updates/Downloads in Viewpoint Media Player

Viewpoint Corporation has included in thier Viewpoint Media Player browser plug-in, an automatic update feature that removes download control from the user. Users receive no notification of downloads/updates occurring. Also included with updates could be the download of third party software (AOL, GAIN, etc).

"Viewpoint may download updates, upgrades, and/or Third Party Software during these communications or when the Software detects a file that requires a component that is currently not installed. These downloads will occur automatically and without any advance notification to you."
"Viewpoint is not responsible for any Third Party Software and shall have no liability for your use of Third Party Software."
We, the undersigned, have no desire to see the security of our systems comprimised in this way. We implore Viewpoint Corporation to cease this practice, and to place control of updates/downloads back in the control of the end user. Until such time as the Viewpoint Media Player is made safe, we will not use it, and will bring this security issue to the attention those with whom we share our online existence, urging them to also choose not to use this "trojanized" software.

Not sure if there is a list where reputable software alternatives to products like Viewpoint Media Player, etc. are displayed. Such a site might add to the pressure against privacy abuse by software firms.
