There's been this ban on Blogger.com thats been put in place by the government. The justification given by the govt. is that its to thwart the activities of some terrorist organization which had been using the site for its nefarious motives. While that may be the case or not, one is well aware that in situations like this when the powers that be cant find the real culprit, they start looking for scapegoats.
The govt. has released a perfunctory list of blogs that might have been used by the Terrorists . To stop this communication channel, it has in its wisdom come to the conclusion that it wud be better to block these blogs. What one fails to understand is why it has shown the additional extraordinary sagacity and blocked the the site altogether. Surely not all the blogs on blogger.com cud have been possibly utilized in the way that is being projected. But the babus in delhi care little about such niceties !
This ban is totally illegal and unconstitutional. It is utterly violative of Article 19 of the Indian Constitution. It presumes that blocking a site wud stop all flow of communication. Well if that doesnt work, then we cud all do without the internet, cant we.
The ban is absolutely irrational, irrelevant and baselss, and serves no purpose at all except muzzling the right of free citizens to communicate and express themselves.
We shud all raise our voice and petition the President of India and the Chief Justice of India. The freedom of speech of indian citizens is being held hostage.
