Elmitate the New York State Real Estate Rebate Ban

The state of New York currently bans real estate agents from giving part of their commissions (rebates) back to the buyer. This is unfair to the consumers and limits the competitiveness of the state. Consumers in California, Florida and Washington are already enjoying real estate rebates from web sites such as Redfin.com and Buysiderealty.com.







The state law which bans real estate rebates only benefits industry insiders who want the barrier to entry to be as high as possible. This is at odds with the interest of the consumers. Consumers want choice, including the choice to choose real estate agents who want to provide rebates to consumers.







Competition is a foundation of our capitalist society. We must act to ensure that our law does not prevent hard working men and women from achieving the American Dream of home ownership.
