We call upon you to establish a Northeast Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone (NEA-NWFZ) as a means to ensure peace and stability in a region that has suffered under the persistent threat of nuclear weapons for over sixty years.
We propose a 3+3 NWFZ -- the ROK, the DPRK and Japan as central parties to the zone and the neighboring nuclear weapon states (China, Russia and the US) as supporting parties by their provision of security assurances.
Based upon the 1992 Inter-Korean Joint Declaration on the Denuclearization of Korean Peninsula and Japans Three Non-Nuclear Principles, this arrangement is both realistic and achievable.
With almost all the land area and two-thirds of the seas in the Southern Hemisphere designated as NWFZs, it is time for you to take bold initiative and expand NWFZs into the Northern Hemisphere by establishing a Northeast Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone now!
