We the undersigned, request for the commutation of sentence for Sherman Williams. Sherman has just entered his 10th year in the Federal Bureau of Prison system. He is a former College and NFL football star who was excessively sentenced to 15 years and 8 months for a 1st time non-violent offense of Conspiracy to Distribute Marijuana and Counterfeit. The judge placed this harsh sentence on Sherman because of his star athletic status to prove a point and not because of his crime. There are countless of people that have taken a human life or violated a child that now walk free in our society. Yet, we as tax payers continue to spend 40K a year for Shermans unjust imprisonment. Over the decade Sherman has missed the birth of his daughter, the death of his mother and countless memorable life events. He is no longer the immature 24 year old man that committed this non-violent crime. Sherman is now a 36 year old mature, intelligent and spiritual man that will do more for our society outside of the prison walls than behind them. He is planning to lead a non-profit organization for At Risk Youth. He is committed to be a part of the solution that plagues so many of our communities. He will be that role model so many young people need. His children and his community need him.
Thank you for your strong consideration of our request to reduce the sentence of Sherman Williams for his immediate release.
