We, the undersigned, F700 owners and potential buyers think that the F700 is an excellent camera, as it provides for diverse photographic creativity, spontaneity of photography in such a small size. However, we are not seeing the claimed increase in dynamic range from the SR sensor in most day to day photography. Now that there are several raw converters as well as the new raw converter for Adobe Photoshop CS, we can see that the F700's SR sensor works very well, but the F700 seems to be less than optimal in its use of it.
Therefore, we kindly ask that:
1) FUJIFILM issues a firmware update that allows manually setting the amount of R sensor added to a jpeg photograph- or a "bias" or "weight".
Suggestion:
An "SR" menu with two items: "normal range" and "extreme range" The extreme range would take into account more of the R sensor
Another suggestion: "SR mix bracketing" - the camera takes three successive shots with varying amounts of SR mixing, and the user can select which one to store on the camera (or the three of them get automatically stored just like exposure bracketing).
2) If number 1 is not practical, we understand there is a FUJIFILM raw converter, HS-V2, that will allow the SR sensor to be used more fully in raw mode. We suggest that every owner of the F700 be issued this software for free, following due process of camera registration.
3) Complete disclosure of the algorithm used to mix the SR sensors in the F700, including mathematical description.A "user guide" page with several thumbnail photographs that show when the F700 is expected to do a higher or lower use of the R sensor, and label those thumbnail photographs according to predicted R sensor use. This would be extremely beneficial to F700 owners, so they can take advantage of their cameras and know in which situations they can take pictures with more confidence than the average digital camera.
4) We would like a full disclosure of the elements in the raw format so that third parties can develop software to fully utilize the SR sensor for files shot in raw mode.
5) Finally, there are a number of other issues with the F700, it may or may not be practical to fix these but we would like toknow that our concerns are heard and believe our input would be helpful in defining future successors to the F700 camera.
It would make us very happy to know that FUJIFILM is a company that responds to customer concerns, and that by working together we can make FUJIFILM a more profitable company with a higher customer satisfaction index.
