Chris Weitz, director of the upcoming adaptation of The Golden Compass, has said in a publically-released letter that the last three chapters of the book has been cut out of the film, and will be placed in the first few moments of the next proposed film, The Subtle Knife. If The Golden Compass is a success at the box office, then The Subtle Knife will get made. But what if it flops? Fans of the His Dark Materials trilogy will not get to see what is arguably the best chapters of The Golden Compass on screen if this happens.
