Our soccer coach, Hugo Charria, and his young family have been denied the chance to stay in Canada while they apply for permanent residence. They are being deported back to either Columbia, where he was kidnapped and held for ransom by Guerrillas, or Spain, where he was subjected to horrendous racism, including death threats. Since coming to Canada 2 years ago, he has found a job and works 60 hours a week to fully support his family with no social assistance. He uses his university degree specializing in soccer education to coach and inspire our local youth. Our mayor says he has "exemplified the highest standards of Canadian values" and Cambridge Youth Soccer says he is uniquely qualified amongst over 300 coaches and a "very valuable asset". If this family doesn’t qualify to stay in Canada, who does??? We have appealed to all levels of government with no support other than from our local mayor. Do you feel that the Charria family should be allowed to remain in Canada? Or at least that their case should be reviewed? Please sign our petition in hopes that the government will finally hear our voices!
