HELP THE WORLD AUSTRALIA

I love this country that we live in called Australia. We have been dubbed the lucky country, and it is true- we are so fortunate to be here in regards to the plentiful countries out there that suffer ten fold to what even the poorest in Australia do.
In saying that I love this country, I also would love to say I am proud. Proud of the effort we put in to loving and caring and providing for the people out there who need it. For the people who suffer loss, and starvation, and despair every single day of their lives. What is it but our moral obligation to help these people- its no skin off our backs! We spend SO much on weapons, and food, and consuming things that we dont even need, yet there are people out there who just need a blanket at night, and ONE decent meal a day.
Australia is one of 191 member states of the United Nations, which have pledged to achieve the 8 Millennium Development Goals (http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/) by the year 2015. Australia also committed itself to giving its agreed share of 0.7\% of our Gross National Income in foreign aid. We pledged to reach this target by 2015. Yet we are not on track to achieving these goals.
Over 1 billion people live on less than $1 a day
Globally, there are 33.2 million people infected with HIV.
Every day, 30,000 children die as a result of extreme poverty.
We wish to bring to your attention these issues and request that you acknowledge that Australia can and must do more
We request that you as Prime Minister of Australia formulate a long-term plan for increasing foreign aid to 0.7\%, and achieving the Millennium Development Goals. I pray that you find it in your heart to hear this plea, by your people who are desperate to see a change in this world. You can make a difference, please open your eyes and your heart and see the world.
