In September 2007, Valmont Academy is downsizing to a K-9 school. At the moment Valmont is a K-12 All Grade school. When they downsizes Valmont everyone in grades 10-12 will be bussed 15 minutes away to Indian River High located in Springdale. But it is only 15 minutes for the King's Point students. Valmont Academy serves the towns of King's Point, Rattling Brook, Harry's Harbour and surrounding area (Harry's Harbour, Silverdale, Nickey's Nose Cove, Langdon's Cove, and Jackson's Cove). Rattling Brook will have to travel 20 minutes, Harry's Harbour and Surrounding area will take 40 minutes to go to Springdale. It takes 25 to come to King's Point from Harry's Harbour and surrounding areas, so that would mean that Harry's Harbour will have to get up even earlier now. King's Point Highway [route 391] is deadly and to be bussed across those roads would be a sure accident in the near future. King's Point don't want to go to Springdale and Springdale don't want us over there. Indian River High is overcome with people now, so put 50 people people from Valmont over there, imagine what it will be. Hell will break lose! Valmont Academy didn't make these decisons, our so called school board "The Nova Central School District #3" did. I know what they are trying to do, is to give us a better education in a bigger school. But, Valmont is the best school ever and we gets an excellent education and the teachers are so awesome, we wouldn't change them for the world. Valmont Academy is only 22 years old, that is pretty new in Newfoundland. It would be better to send South Brook and Sheppardsville to Valmont Academy, the population would rise dramaticly and those two towns both have no schools and are being bussed to Springdale, And it is the same distance from those two town King's Point as it is now to Springdale. So Sign the Petition and maybe if we all try, we can keep Valmont Academy a K-12 School! [Home of the Vikings!]
