The Irish Society for Quality and Safety in Healthcare (ISQSH) is a not-for-profit, charitable organisation dedicated to improving the quality and safety of healthcare across Ireland and was established in 1994. Chief executive Dr Hilary Dunne confirmed this week that, while the organisation had received funding to the amount of €190,000 annually since 2001 from the Department of Health, it was asked to apply instead to the HSE for funding for 2013, and had been turned down. This core funding is essential for our Society to continue in improving the quality and safety of healthcare across Ireland through primarily research but also through supporting the development of professionals in this area through education and training and through a patient advocacy group that aims to ensure all patient groups have a voice.
