What is an Admiral Nurse?
Admiral nurses are specialist dementia nurses, working in the community, with families, carers and supporters of people with dementia.
The Admiral nurse model was established as a direct result of the experiences of family carers, Admiral nurses are named after Joseph Levy, who had dementia.
His family knew him as Admiral Joe due to his keen interest in sailing.
Admiral Nurses:
Ø Work with family carers as their prime focus
Ø Provide emotional and practical advice, support, information and skills
Ø Promote best practice in person centred dementia care
Ø Work with other agencies to streamline dementia care and support in their local areas
Admiral nurses are employed by the NHS/local PCTs and are currently only available if you live in the right postcode.
We have NO admiral nurses in Hertfordshire.

Your support really can make a difference.
By signing this petition you will help me gather the evidence needed to demonstrate demand for the Admiral nurse service, this should help convince commissioners and health providers that families living in Hertfordshire need and want a dedicated service for family carers.
Thank you.
