We, the undersigned, are writing to express our deep concern for the large class sizes throughout all grades at Longfellow Elementary. We believe the overcrowding in our classes, particularly in grades 3-6, is serving as an impediment to learning and is detrimental to all students who attend Longfellow. To cite some of the numbers/comparisons, Longfellow classes currently have:• four of the ten largest classes in the ICCSD• six of the eighteen largest (>29) classes (each of our six 3rd/4th & 5th/6th sections)• above average class sizes in K-2.We would like the ICCSD Board and Administration to address issues of class size at Longfellow and equity across the district, so that our classes and enrollment numbers are fair and conducive with learning for all of our children. When making budget decisions, make the protection of educationally effective and manageable class sizes a top priority.
