Make It Compulsory To Have Number Plates of Private Vehicles Glow in Dark

I am a girl. And what happened to me last night is nothing different than what happens to girls in India every night, every day, every time. I was subjected to an atrocious act by a man, in a public space, at the main road.But that came as no surprise to me as we have already accepted such acts as mundane. What I haven't accepted is, our inability to do something about such acts. I was standing outside a shop opposite IIT Kanpur with a friend and did not notice the people around me. There were two strangers, men, on a bike who physically assaulted me, and rode away. I gained my senses after two seconds and looked in the direction of the bike, and tried to do the most obvious thing - note down the number of the vehicle. To my disappointment, it was unreadable because it was in the evening. I failed to read the plate, I failed to hold the only evidence possible against these guys, I failed to do anything about them, I failed to fight against the atrocity meted out to me. I felt helpless; of what use was my education, my independent spirit, when I couldn't do something so simple. I am sure, every single night, there are girls like me who try to read the number plate of a vehicle to be able to track the person who assaulted them, but they fail. We can only try to fight filthy minds such as those of the strangers on the bike but we may or may not be successful. But while we fight, let's not forget what we CAN do to ensure that such rogues learn their lesson. It will be of immense help if the Government takes an action about this, and makes it absolutely necessary for the number plates to glow in dark. A legible vehicle number is imperative, and if our country is able to ensure the same, a cop could easily identify people who break the traffic rules irrespective it being dark, girls like me can ensure they know some information about their assailants. At least SOMETHING can be done. Join me in requesting the Government to make it compulsory for vehicles to have a number plate that glows. Our fight for women's safety needs to start with a pragmatic step.
