Make Snyder's Flat a Dog Friendly, Off-Leash, Fence-Free Park

On June 4, 2014, The Record published an article, Leash laws to be enforced at Snyder's Flats, stating dog owner's will be required to have their dog on a leash or risk a minimum $95 fine along with possible trespassing charges.
If you are a dog owner in the Waterloo Region, there is a good chance you have enjoyed the unofficial off-leash park. And with good reason because safe, clean and wide-open spaces for dogs to run are few and far between in the region. In fact, there are THREE official dog parks in the city: Bechtel Park; McLennan Park and Maple Grove Road, none of which are properly maintained and have each had their fair share of 'serious' incidents throughout the years.
I am a passionate dog owner and I believe (strongly) that dogs and their owners deserve to have an open, off-leash, fence-free area designated to them. There are lots of parks and conservation areas for people without dogs to enjoy...it would be nice if dogs and their owners could do the same.
My goal with this petition is to raise awareness about the need for an off-leash, fence-free, dog-friendly area, which is what Snyder Flats has been (albeit unofficially) for years.
Please show your support: Sign and share this petition. Even if you don't have a dog, but think dogs and owners deserve a space to run free without bothering others, please sign.
I appreciate your support, more than you know and I really hope this accomplishes the goal!!
