Operation Save Dave

We, the undersigned students of Stony Brook University, are writing to petition you to renew the
contract of Dr. David Maynard, Director of University Scholars. At a large and developing University such
as Stony Brook, it is extremely rare to find such a vibrant and personally engaging community like the
one Dr. Maynard has created with University Scholars. This community has had a profound impact on
our lives and futures here at Stony Brook, propelling us to leadership roles on campus and academic
success.

The key to the success of University Scholars is Dr. Maynard, who is available to us in a capacity that is
unheard of in large University settings. Not only is he willing to create time to address the specific needs
of every Scholar, he also works tirelessly to help each and every student find their niche in a school
where it is very easy to get lost. Dr. Maynard has managed to expand the Scholars program far beyond
the reach of a first year seminar and we feel that the decision not to renew his contract is an unwise
one. Losing Dr. Maynard will be a detriment to the Scholars program as well as a severe personal loss for
each and every student involved in it. We would be hard-pressed to find anyone else who is as caring for
and personally invested in their students.

Please do not let this university suffer a loss of this great instructor, mentor, and friend; doing so will
create extreme harm to the university and the lives of its students.
