OWU English Equestrian Team

The signers of this petition request the Ohio Wesleyan University to expedite the creation of an Intercollegiate English Equestrian Team. The current equestrian team caters to the Western discipline and does not meet the needs of the English riders at Ohio Wesleyan. Students wishing to study the hunt seat discipline are currently riding independently at Old Oak Farm. Denise Phillips at Old Oak Farm has agreed to the use of her facility and horses. She is willing to teach and travel to shows to support the English Equestrian Team. Graduating seniors would like an opportunity to compete at the college level in February and March 2010.

There is an essential need and a strong desire to create an English Equestrian Team at Ohio Wesleyan University. It is not our desire to detract from the current program. The addition of a dedicated English coach and facility can only benefit both the existing club and the University. Going forward, it is our hope to build a competitive IHSA team and to expand the program to provide a unique equestrian opportunity to any student at Ohio Wesleyan that wishes to be more involved with horses at any level.
