Palmia Park Safety

The Palmia Community around Palmia Park includes 300+ homes, 100+ townhouses, and 900+ apartments that all use Palmia Park as a place to enjoy their families and meet their neighbors. It is also common knowledge by visitors at Palmia Park that cars are constantly speeding by (at sometimes more than 2 times the speed limit) and endangering the lives of many Palmians and citizens of the City of San Jose in the process. Many close calls have taken place where cars had to slam on their breaks to avoid hitting a pedestrian; we believe something proactive should be done about this before anyone is seriously injured or killed.
Such PERMANENTE signalization for drivers may include electronic speed checks (which shows drivers their speed), stop signs and cross walks around the park to make it safe for pedestrians (many of them children) to cross the street and regular police patrolling. Signalization SHOULD NOT include speed bumps, as they tend to pose a negative impact on the community as a whole.
Additionally, there is no safe lawful way to cross the streets Palmia Dr., Primrose Dr., or Palm Valley Blvd. to Palmia Park as not crosswalks or stop signs exists. People who want to enjoy Palmia Park have to jaywalk across Palmia Dr., Primrose Dr., or Palm Valley Blvd to get to enjoy the park facilities.
In conclusion, residents at the Palmia Community, which total nearly 1,500 families, demand action to safeguard our families when enjoying our neighborhood. IT IS A FACT that vehicles are speeding by the Palmia Park on a daily basis and that there are not stop signs or crosswalks for pedestrians to use when going to the park. Previous attempts have been made to contact the City of San Jose about this problem, but no permanent actions by the City were ever taken - now we have put together this petition to make our demands official as residents of the Palmia Community, City of San Jose.
