Pay Disparity

Following the 2006 Starting Salaries Review and the subsequent approval of its findings by the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council in 2007, there was a restructuring of the salary scale which affected the salaries of over 1000 serving teachers recruited between 2000 and 2007.

As a result of the restructuring of the pay scale, those with the same teaching experience and qualifications continue to be paid less for the same work, though they have longer service. This practice is unfair and discriminatory; teachers should be rewarded for their dedication to the profession, not penalized.

We, the undersigned Hong Kong educators, respectfully urge the EDB to promptly rectify this situation by increasing the salaries of teachers recruited between April 2000 and July 2007 to the same level as that of their other colleagues.
