People Against the American Censorship of Anime

The United States prides itself on being the defender of democracy and human rights, particularly that of "freedom of speech" in its First Amendment. And yet, when shows are brought from other countries into the United States, particularly in the case of Japanese animated serieses (anime), they are botched and censored by translators and entertainment moguls in order to increase ratings and promote the idea that "cartoons are only for children."

This idea is not true at all.

Things that have been changed are deletion of blood, covering up tasteful nudity, changing names so they're "easier to pronounce" (while losing meaning of these names in the process), deleting scenes and episodes that are necessary for plotline development, taking away necessary religous references, and changing lines to make them more child-friendly or even taking out entire episodes just because they were celebrating a Japanese holiday, under the pretence that it 'wasn't an American holiday'. Established couples have been changed because they were homosexual, as well.

We, the undersigned, wish to stop this tasteless practice and ensure that serieses are brought to the proper audiences and censorship stops. We are losing our rights to free speech, our rights that must preciously be kept. If the media and the conservatives of this country are allowed to control what is brought here to this country, what will be next? We ask of ALL of you to stop this insanity. You will not lose profits. As a matter of fact, most of these series are targeted to teenagers, who have the most spending power in the nation. The anime fanbase is increasing, and they are willing to make sacrifices to see "uncut" episodes. Please, give us what we desire, or we will boycott your products.
