"This Petition should be signed only by Alumni of IIT Madras, India"
Dear Sir,
Globalisation of IIT Madras Alumni Association is happening and not just a dream any more.
The wheels are in motion and between now and December this year, alumni at large should collectively contribute our ideas to create a robust constitution for the alumni association by rewriting the bye laws that acts as a guide to good governance and ethics to be followed & upheld by the next Global Committee
The future Global Executive committee, will have
5- Members from India,
5- Members from USA,
5- Members from Rest of the World and
3- Faculty Members who are alumni of IITM.
The general agreement is to have a common election held in December each year and one common database and one common web site as part of the initial unification process. This debate on Globalisation of IITMAA, will be led by Ravi Sankar, President of MAANA who has taken an active role in negotiating amicable outcomes. Ravi will take the discussions to alumni at large as agreed at our July EC meeting
Until this point of time every thing has been sort of informal at IITMAA, with "anything goes", "after all I am spending my personal time" attitude..
It is now time for alumni who get elected to the executive committee to get serious, make a committment to serve unconditionally and treat our association like our own FUN club but serious enough to manage it professionally.
We the UNDERSIGNED ( 100 members of IITM alumni association ) request the Executive Committee of IITMAA to call for an EGM ASAP to bring about necessary changes to bye laws to serve the association of the future.
We call for this EGM in accordance with Clause 12.ii of the association bye laws which states : An Extraordinary General Meeting of the members of the association may called by the Executive Committee. Such Extraordinary General Meeting may also be called at the request made to the Executive Committee in writing by at least 100 registered members of the Association. The meeting shall be called within one month from the date of receipt of their requisition in writing. For holding an Extraordinary General Body Meeting, 30 days clear notice shall be given to the members specifying the business to be transacted.
We the undersigned leave it to the exe committee to call for an EGM of their own conviction or wait for 100 signatures to this petition..
Once agreed in principle the Exe Committee should allow free and transparent discussions & polling on proposed amendments to bye laws upholding true democratic principles . We request that this process is given reasonable time to succeed and not rushed unnecessarily
This will NOT be an appropriate place to publicise the proposed amendments to the Bye Laws of IITMAA and shall be taken up in an exclusive forum with alumni who sign this petition or send expressions of interest to participate.
Yours Sincerely
Ram Krishnaswamy
IITM 1970 Batch
