Petition in Support of the Future of LGBTQ Support Services & Resources at Cornell University

Because the lack of University support for LGBTQ resources has been a persistent problem for several years prior to the university-wide hiring pause, we are even more fearful now that the University will permanently collapse the only three distinct LGBTQ-focused positions on campus into one position for our entire community. There are tangible indications that this is their plan. Additionally, LGBTQ students have been disempowered and inadequately supported under the Office of Student Support. Because of these issues, explained in greater detail at http://supportlgbtqcornell.blogspot.com, we support the following:

1. That the position for the Assistant Dean to LGBT Student Outreach will not be permanently collapsed into the duties of the LGBT Resource Center Director, even as the Assistant Dean position remains vacant.

2. Haven: the LGBTQ Student Union will have no administrative connection to the Office of Student Support in any capacity, though it will retain its office space. Most importantly, when the position is filled, the Assistant Dean of LGBT Student Outreach will report directly and solely to the LGBTRC Director.
