Petition to End Fitnah in the Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake

We, the undersigned members of the Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake (ages 16 years or older), ask the Islamic Society Leadership (Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Board of Trustees the following:





1. We want to avoid any further misunderstandings, distruct, and fitnah by asking that all brothers involved in the decision-making process to fire Imam Shuaib, resign immediately. This does not mean that they admit to any wrong-doing in any sense. It is simply for the better of the Islamic Society in the Salt Lake City area and to put an end to the fitnah.





2. That those current leaders serving on the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, who did not participate or were out of town that they remain in the elected positions.





3. That elections be held, according to the Islamic Society's Constitution within 3 weeks of the resignations.





4. That those who did resign not run for election for at least two years.





5. That there be no more backbiting (gheeba) or slander(lamz) made by any leaders in the Islamic Society and that it be grounds for dismissal in the future.





6. That if those involved in the firing of Imam Shuaib choose NOT to resign, that the EC President, Br. Tariq Nosseir, organize an ad-hoc committee consisting of 6 pious, knowledgeable Muslims in our community and 1 pious, knowledgeable Muslim OUTSIDE our community to serve as a "judge" and investigate any wrong-doing by any members of our leadership and take appropriate action according to the Islamic Society's Constitution and Bylaws, Shari'ah, Sunnah, and Quran.





We ask Allah to bless and protect our community from any fitnah and keep us united, insha'Allah Amin.
