Dear Ms Carolyn Mccall,
I am writing this letter to you with the hope that you may consider opening an Easy Jet Office in Beirut, Lebanon.
Lebanon has always been a special country not only to the Lebanese but also to tourists. Lebanon's long history, natural beauty and the spirit of its people give it a place in the hearts of all who have been there --whether in the halcyon years, or during periods of crisis. An independent republic since 1943, It is a compact country of 10,452 square kilometers with a population approaching 4 million.
Located at the meeting point of three continents, over the centuries Lebanon has been the crossroads of many civilizations whose traces may still be seen today. Its countryside is a place of rocks, cedar trees and magnificent ruins that look down from mountains to the sea. "Lubnan" its Arabic name, means "white" the color of the mountains.
In winter the high peaks are covered with snow and in summer their limestone slopes glimmer white in the distance. Two rocky ranges traverse Lebanon parallel to the sea coast, separated by the high plateau of the Beqaa valley. On the coast are five famous towns known to every archaeologist and school child - Berytus (Beirut), Byblos, Sidon, Tripoli and Tyre -- the names of ancient Phoenicia.
With over 15 million Lebanese living abroad there is a guaranteed market for flights both from and to Lebanon. The country holds a very special place in the hearts of the Lebanese and it would be a shame not to share the smile that the country brings to so many faces.
An estimated 2 million tourists are expected to be flying to Lebanon for the 2010 summer season alone.
More importantly , Beirut has been picked as the number 1 travel destination in 2009 by The New York Times.
The ambitious 10-year reconstruction program of the airport is mostly complete and Beirut now has a world-class facility which is ranked among the top airports in the Middle East.
In 2035 the airport is expected to handle about 16,000,000 passengers per year. (Wikipedia)
I hope that you may now consider this as I see it to be a market that is yet to be explored by the cheap flights sector and one that will make Easy jet quite a lot of money.
