Petition To Remove The Fence And Restore Public Access To The Tip Of Sandy Hook
We, the undersigned, are petitioning U.S. Coast Guard to remove the fence recently constructed to bar public beach access to the area known as the "Sandy Hook Rip". The Rip has long been recognized as one of the finest and most historic surf fishing locations along the Atlantic seaboard. The Rip located at the northwestern point of Sandy Hook has been a destination for generations of surf anglers who have always co-existed peaceably with the U.S. Coast Guard station at Sandy Hook. Losing access to the traditional and historically public and productive tip of Sandy Hook to the government who should be holding public resources in the public trust is unacceptable. The limited amount of beachfront resources must be accessible to all.
