Petition to Repeal Ontario's Breed-Specific Legislation

BSL does not improve public safety or prevent dog bites;

BSL ignores the plight of victims and potential victims of non-targeted dogs;

BSL is costly and wastes taxpayer dollars;

BSL requires each and every dog to be identified as a breed which has been proven impossible to do accurately and objectively;

BSL does not hold irresponsible dog owners accountable;

BSL punishes responsible dog owners and their non-offending dogs;

Not a single expert canine welfare organization supports BSL

WHEREAS Aggressive dogs are found among all breeds and mixed breeds; and

WHEREAS Breed-specific legislation has been shown to be an expensive and ineffective approach to dog bite prevention; and

WHEREAS Problem dog owners are best dealt with through education, training and legislation encouraging responsible behaviour;

WE the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:

To repeal the breed-specific sections of the Dog Owners' Liability Act (2005) and any related Acts and to instead implement legislation that encourages responsible ownership of all dog breeds and types.

Help us speak for the ones that cannot speak for themselves and show Kathleen Wynne how wrong this legislation is!
