The second and to-date last stand alone Predator film Predator 2 was a disappointment, however this is due to a number of factors such as bad timing and the lack of Arnold Schwarzenegger and so the weaker quality of Predator 2 in comparison to its predecessor lead to a weaker Box Office return.
We as Predator fans believe Fox need to overlook the past and have a positive outlook of the future because only they can put the franchise back on the map. Since the release of Predator 2, the Predator fan base has grown considerably over the years and there is now an incredible amount of demand for a new Predator film. We haven't received a stand alone predator film in nearly 20 years and in this prominent period where the Predator fan base has grown, the AvP films were a commercial success and the demand for a new good quality stand alone film is at its peak, green lighting P3 would be an excellent and logical idea for Fox. Good quality Predator films can be made on a moderate budget and combining BO returns, DVD sales, merchandise sales (Predator comics were really popular in the 90s) and the general thirst for P3, we believe the Predator franchise has immense Box Office potential. An effective director can use a small budget to crank out maximum results. An effective director always gives the illusion of a large scale look and feel to the film in an actually much smaller scale.
Although the AvP movies have not been up to scratch in many fans eyes, they have introduced Predators to a new generation of the movie going audience and this can only be a good thing because more people than ever want to see their favourite creatures back in their own element. Perhaps the strongest feature of Aliens vs Predator Requiem was the design and onscreen manner of 'The Wolf' Predator a view which most fans share and is further testament to the fact that fans respond positively when a design team gets it right. Fox has a chance to redeem themselves by green lighting P3 and hiring talent to make a good film. Fans have wanted P3 for a long time and a good film will bring a lot of optimism back. If backed by a great writer and series producers Joel Silver/Lawrence Gordon along with Alan Silvestri, the Thomas brothers & Stan Winston, a director such as Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent), David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy), Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City, I Robot) or even the Brothers Strause (Aliens vs Predator: Requiem) could possibly make a very decent Predator film, one that would put the series on the map again.
In conclusion we truly believe that a Bad Blood inspired film would be best for the revival film of the series because not only does it bring new concepts/ideas to the series and expands on the themes of P2, but it's present day setting makes for a film requiring a moderate budget of only 50-60 million thus greatly increasing the chance of success. A remake or reboot is not necessary given the numerous settings and sources of inspiration which can yield the opportunity for a good Predator sequel or prequel where talented and creative writers have a lot of room to expand the Predator universe.
In order to show our support as well as proof of the global demand for a third Predator movie we the fans have voiced our opinion in this petition.
