We are very concerned about the impact to human and natural communities posed by Marathon Ashland Petroleum's proposed Ohio River Pipe Line project. Marathon is seeking permission to build a 149-mile, 3.36 million gallon per day pipeline for refined petroleum products from Kenova, West Virginia to Columbus, Ohio. These products include jet fuel, gasoline, kerosene, and diesel fuel. The proposed route crosses very difficult terrain in Southeast Ohio's Lawrence, Gallia, Jackson, Vinton, Hocking, and Fairfield counties. Marathon Ashland has done a very poor job in assessing risks to both human and natural communities in its proposed pipeline corridor and has failed to review any alternative routes with more reasonable impacts.
We urge you to help protect Southeast Ohio communities, drinking water, public parks, and natural areas by holding this company to the highest level of technical and scientific rigor in the permitting of this massive and risky project.
The undersigned ask that you, in your official capacity, request that the US Army Corps of Engineers prepare an Environmental Impact Statement thoroughly analyzing the environmental impacts, the purpose and need, and the reasonable alternatives that would minimize the impacts of the MAP/ORPL pipeline before any construction permits are issued.

At the very least there should have been an Environmental Impact Statement done and the public should have an opportunity to be more involved
