RED Chats

As of Saturday, April 22, 2005, the number of chat rooms in AOL RED was reduced to twenty. Many members have had problems with this for a number of reasons. This cutback has already caused trouble and is likely to cause even more in the future.
Mainly, because of the great reduction in number, the chat rooms have been rendered nearly impossible to get into. However, teens still want to chat and are more apt to abandon the endless and almost futile cycle of click and enter, and go to other chat rooms on other websites. These rooms, more often than not, are unmediated and the teen endangers him or herself when he or she is put in a situation where there are no 'Hosts' to keep the chats safe. This is a great worry for many of the AOL parents and their uneasy teens.
Second, there is the frustration of the constantly full chat room. When the rooms are filled to the limit with "Hott girl looking for a hottie press 101" and "a/s/l" there is no room for discussion about real issues and life. When the number of rooms is larger there is more room for conversation and teens are less likely to be driven to the risk of using an IM to talk to a total stranger, where, again, there is no moderation.
We, the concerned teens of AOL, request that the number of rooms be increased to allow more adolescents to frequent the rooms in a safer manner.
