Respect The History Of John Lennon

With regards to the John Lennon documentary to be shown later this year marking 25 years since his death, we are against any boycott of the channel which will include the interview with Mark David Chapman.

It is merely urban legend that the motive for Chapman's horrific crime was for him to gain worldwide fame and status equal to that of his hero.

Were that his actual motive, he stands to gain nothing if this footage is shown other than to look bad in the eyes of the people that love John Lennon. However, if this footage is not shown, Lennon fans stand to lose a chance to maybe begin to understand one of the most senselessly affecting crimes of our lifetime while the person who committed it is still alive to talk about it.

It is also an endorsement of censorship to attempt to manipulate the press into not investigating and reporting matters of historical significance. (This would be like putting a journalistic moratorium on stories about Hitler, or like the church deciding to never discuss Satan.)

We urge you to re-think your position and to take an intelligent approach toward letting unfold the complete story of the life of John Lennon - a man who gave so much for music, peace, and humanity.

As this needs to be done, we will NOT boycott Channel 4.
