Royal Mail Postal Strike

Many businesses as well as individuals have been affected by the Royal Mail postal strike, taking place during October 2007, and ongoing.

The basis of the action being taken by the workers, is that they are being asked to work a full working week, as apposed to previous working practice which allowed them to finish early if they completed their work early.

As a business owner, I cannot appreciate any logic which involves allowing workers to finish early upon completion of their work, and I feel that the workers and union are concerned about this practice, as if the practice is removed it will highlight a massive over-staffing level within royal mail. Lets face it, if many staff currently finish work at 11am and are payed for a full days work, there IS a MAJOR over-staffing issue.

It is in the interest of the general public, and UK business to ensure that Royal Mail is run as a business, and NOT a charity or doss-house. If Royal Mail workers are allowed to get their own way on this action, it represents inflated costs for users, and no doubt for every single tax-payer when the government will be expected to bail them out when/if their current business model fails.

The total disregard for the postal users can be highlighted as follows;

A user in slough who has been waiting for a kidney transplant for 8 months has explained to local radio her anguish that perhaps her place will be lost in this postal action, or at the very least delayed.

Thousands of users hit with the UK floods earlier in 2007 have been left wandering if their insurance claim forms are to be lost, or when they might receive much needed funds to help them rebuild their lives.

An already badly run, poorly maintained service is being destroyed by under-worked staff, who feel that a good half days work, represents a good full days pay.

Please offer your support to the Royal Mail management by signing this petition. Under no circumstances will the public be held to ransom in such a way.

Thank you.
