Hoya Palooza - a long standing Georgetown University tradition - came under attack from the University administration on October 6, 2005 when the University refused to give approval for Hoya Blue to serve alcohol at this event. Hoya Blue has worked hard over the past 3 weeks to create a proposal to create a beer garden area where professional servers from Marriot would serve alcohol to students who were over 21. These students would receive a limited amount of beers due to a strictly enforced system of drink tickets and age identification wrist bands. The event was also to be sponsored by GUGS, the Athletic Department, and the Hoya Hoop Club and would have provided a healthy environment for students over 21 to drink in and a viable non-alcoholic alternative for students under 21. University Vice President Todd Olson refused to meet with Hoya Blue to discuss the event and still has not scheduled a meeting with Hoya Blue. We feel that he has sent a strong message to the community that the administration is not willing to come up with creative solutions to problems like underage drinking and is not willing to engage in meaningful dialogue with its students. Tell Georgetown University that they are wrong by supporting Hoya Blue and Hoya Palooza and help us save Hoya Palooza.
