On the 10th January 2011 Paul Scott General Manager of Mount Conferences wrote to all members of The Mount Gym advising that the gym will close on the 28th February 2011. As a member of the gym and regular user I am disappointed that this decision has been made without the consultation of members or alternatives offered. The terms and conditions of membership section 9 point 9.1 states "We can change this agreement at any time. We will give you 3 months notice of any change in writing at the address you have given and by a notice on the notice board." As members, we have been given 6 weeks notice. In the school accounts for the period to August 2009 it states that “The contribution made by Mount Conferences Ltd, the groups trading subsidiary, amounted to £82,619 (2008 - £126,360). This was derived mainly from property lettings, the leisure club, the pavilion bar and shops. I believe the members of the gym should be given an opportunity to keep the gym open and to work with the management to understand how we can make the gym a profitable business to benefit the children of the school, the local community and the members. If you feel as passionately about this as I do please sign my petition.
