SAY NO TO NORTH BAY ROAD BRIDGE

We want to take a moment and make you aware of a proposal in process with the city of Sunny Isles Beach. The citys commissioners, mayor and city manager have an initiative to construct a bridge to connect 172nd Street and 174th Street. You may ask why you should care. Here are a few good reasons:
1. The increased traffic flow on North Bay Road will result in safety concerns for all of our residents. Of primary concern would be the safety of the children who cross the street twice daily to go to and from school. Of secondary concern would be the safety of all of us entering and exiting our communities onto what would become a major thoroughfare.
2. The addition of another North South route would fundamentally change the character of the neighborhood. Because of the commercial activity on Collins, it would rapidly become the preferred route for most through traffic.
3. While we may be in accord with the need for a way for emergency vehicles to move when Collins in blocked, a one way thoroughfare allowing movement in emergencies is more than sufficient to meet the communitys needs without fundamentally changing the quiet neighborhood feel of North Bay Road.
4. The new bridge is not budgeted in the current city plan. This would result in additional costs to the city which we will all see in an increase of our millage rate which will result in increased taxes.
5. The noise and inconvenience during the construction will further damage our quality of life and impede the flow of traffic of our communities.
6. The end resulting bridge will obstruct the views of many home owners and thereby decrease property values.
7. The environmental impact to the mangroves and sea grass which feeds the manatees has not been fully explored and could be highly detrimental.
Please review and sign this on line petition is you agree with us.
