Prior to YES taking to the airwaves, those of us interested in viewing the Yankees (and soon the NJ Devils and NJ Nets) had an outlet to do so through DishNetwork. For years, the Yankees could be seen on MSG. No more. The Yankees have formed their own TV Network, and DishNetwork has refused to subscribe to it, citing that the cost to their subscribers would be too much to bear. There are many reasons why this logic is nonsense, but this is petition is about the merger, not necessarily the YES Network.
If the impending DishNetwork/DirectTV merger were to go through, and the resulting satellite giant decided to pull part of its programming because of its cost, satellite subscribers would be without choice. They would simply have to grin and bear it, or go back to plain ol' cable, vanilla and uninteresting, and be without the quality and technology that satellite TV offers.
This is why the merger MUST be stopped dead in its tracks. If not because of the YES Network, then because of the future of satellite TV programming. And because we want the freedom of choice.
