Whereas, the Canadian Senate is currently made up of Senators appointed by the Prime Minister and hold their position until age 75, and
Whereas the current unelected Senate is totally ineffective, and
Whereas British Columbias Legislature passed legislation in 1997 by which Senate elections could be held, and
Whereas Prime Minister Stephen Harper has promised legislation to limit Senate terms to 8 years, and
Whereas Prime Minister Harper has promised to only appoint elected Senators if provincial governments hold Senate elections,
Therefore, we petition the Government of British Columbia to hold elections for the six Senate seats in British Columbia in conjunction with the 2009 Provincial election.
