Sewage Plant Proposal

To: The Minister for the Environment

We are requesting a review of the proposed planned sewage treatment plant
designated for the Portrane area. We are seeking support for a smaller,
more environmentally and socially conscious treatment for sewage waste.
This plant poses a very real and serious threat to the Dublin Bay
environment, the amenity value of the North Dublin coastline and the
well-being of people in North County Dublin.

The proposed regional sewage plant at Portrane will have the capacity to
serve almost one million people. This is on a similar scale to the sewage
plant in Ringsend, South Dublin. The problems associated with this plant
are well documented and we do not wish to face the same problems in our
community.

Environmental damage, loss of amenities, and the negative impact on the
health of North County Dublin people will be enormous. The internationally
renowned golf courses and bird sanctuary, Rogerstown estuary and blue
flagged beaches are just several of the amenities under threat.

We trust Minister you will review these plans and find alternative means of
dealing with sewage treatment.
