Socially Responsible Investing at Brown

This creation will not diminish the worth of donations. According to the Social Investmet Forum, a national non-profit research organization, funds that invested socially responsibly consistently outperformed the Standard and Poor's 500 over the last five years. When choosing investments, SRI funds take into concern issues such as environmental health, human rights, employment practices, unsafe working conditions, and the treatment of indigenous peoples.
The Corporation recently denied the Advisory Committee on Corporate Responsibility in Investings recommendation to develop a Social Choice Fund because they felt there was not enough demand. We petition our disagreement. We want Brown to be the strongest university possible- but that strength should not be gained through investments in businesses that damage our health, environment, or cultures. At the very least, this can give donors the choice of making their donations be invested conscientiously.
