Stop Atrocity Against the Innocent Villagers of West Bengal

We are registering our strongest protest against the police firing (allegedly backed by CPI(M) cadres) on the innocent people of Nandigram on 14th March 2007.
The CPI(M) led government has misused its power on the innocent unarmed people of Nandigram. It has been forcibly acquiring fertile agricultural lands in the name of industrialisation under a colonial land acquisition law. This will not only deprive thousands of people of their daily bread but also will affect the agricultural sector which is the backbone of our nationвs economy.
The barbaric act committed by the police allegedly backed by CPI(M) cadres should never be tolerated in a democratic nation. Innocent people of Nandigram who were just trying to save their land which is their only source of income were fired upon. The police got the license to kill innocent people with the support of the alleged CPI(M) cadres. The evidences of the bullets fired from pipe guns and bombs which are not used by police indicate the presence of another unauthorised but armed group.
The Leftist government has misused its power to acquire land and suppress the voice of the people opposing it. The late statement made by the Chief Minister shows his irresponsibility. The statement made by the honourable transport minister Subhas Chakraborty that the Governor should support every move of the state government shows that we are being ruled by such ministers who do not know our constitution and our political system and is simply making a mockery of his dignified position.
But the most shocking incident is the use of arms by some other group (allegedly CPI(M) cadres) along with the police. Such an act of supporting another armed group in murdering innocent people shows the lawlessness in West Bengal. It is really unfortunate that the Police who are responsible for protecting the lives of people themselves turned into brutal murderers.
We want you to restore law and order in West Bengal and take immediate steps like:
1. Dissolve the present state government and imposition of presidentвs rule.
2. Police force should be removed from Nandigram and paramilitary forces (or army) that are independent of the State Government should be deployed. This will provide a neutral and independent atmosphere for the CBI to conduct the probe.
3. All land acquisition should be stopped at once. Work on Singur land should also be stopped. A proper survey must be conducted by some independent agency about the effect of these acquisitions on the economy and people of West Bengal before any further decision is made in this regard.
