The cover pages dispensed at Pharos release stations serve primarily to display a users remaining balance for printing. However, such information is already displayed onscreen while printing. Information about quota growth could easily be posted near the Release Station, rather than on a cover page.
The necessity of this revision is brought about in interest of environmental and fiscal conservation. To demonstrate, consider the following calculation. If an average user were to print three documents per day, they would create three wasted cover pages. If a user prints for four out of seven days per week for twelve weeks of the semester, he/she creates about 144 wasted cover pages per semester. Multiplied by the student body of 23,997 students, the student body wastes an estimated 3.4 million sheets of paper per semester!
Estimating the cost of paper at $35 for 5,000 sheets (based on Staples prices), that equates to $24,188 spent on cover sheet paper alone! Regardless of any bulk discounts the university may receive, this is still a despicable possibility for the cost of waste that could be easily eliminated.
In the interest of reducing the environmental and fiscal waste created by the use of cover sheets, we, the undersigned, request that cover sheets be eliminated from the Pharos Release Stations.
