Mito Families Ireland and our supporters call on the HSE to cease their request for a High Court order to place a Do Not Resucitate Order on an 8 month old baby girl with Mitochondrial Depletion Syndrome. We call on those conducting the independent medical review of the case to find against the application of the HSE. A childs right to live or die is not a cost-benefit analysis and should never be treated as such. A finding in favour of the HSE would set a dangerous precedent for the care of all those with life limiting conditions who require life saving medical intervention. All patients deserve and should be entitled to whatever treatment is neccesary and available to them for as long as they or their guardians so choose, not until the goverment deems fit.
