Stop the Odenton Landfill

Anne Arundel County, Maryland, has one of the HIGHEST rates of cancer in the United States. Everything we place in the ground impacts our environment, and our environment impacts each one of us (the air we breathe and the water we drink).
There are 7 landfills within a 5 to 6 mile radius of the location of the proposed Chesapeake Terrace Landfill, holding vast amounts of toxins, pollutants and gases that historically escape into the soil and air. Rubble fill materials can and should be recycled, thus greatly reducing or eliminating the need to have any such landfills.
This proposed landfill will sit directly over the Upper Patapsco Aquifer. This aquifer provides drinking water to thousands of people as it flows towards the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay. Landfill liners can leak and contaminate our water supply.
Huge, trash filled, semi-tractor trailers will travel our already overburdened local roads making them especially dangerous. The intersection at Routes 3 and 424 has already been rated a "failing intersection" by both the County and State of Maryland. The intersection will not safely accommodate up to 600 plus truck trips per day.
Property values can greatly decrease. The national average is 11\% within a 3-mile radius, possibly affecting such communities as Crofton, Piney Orchard, Odenton, Gambrills, Ft. Meade (BRAC) and Seven Oaks.
We call on all of our elected officials to join us in opposing the landfill by intervening to prevent its approval.
